Emily and Steve Part 8

I quickly dialled her mobile phone. She picked up after the fourth ring, sounding groggy. "Hello?"

"Emily, my god, are you okay?"

"Yeah, Steve, I'm fine. We didn't leave the club until four, so I just went and crashed at Frisco's place. What time is it?"

"It's almost seven in the morning. Why didn't you call me?" I asked. Now I knew she was safe, I found myself annoyed that she hadn't called.

"Umm, I didn't want to wake you up. You have to do the purchasing accounts this morning, I didn't think you'd want to lose any sleep," she said. In the background I heard a male voice, though I couldn't make out what it was saying.

"Who's that?" I asked.

"No one. Just Frisco being an idiot," she said. Emily then covered the phone and I could hear her telling Frisco to be quiet. She uncovered the handset, and spoke to me again. "Sorry about that. Anyway, I'm going to sleep for a bit more. Can you let Glen know I will be in late? I'm going to book an appointment with HR for this afternoon to talk to them about coming into work as Emily."

"Yeah, okay, I will. I love you. Call me after your HR appointment," I said.

"Okay, will do. Later," she said, and hung up.

After the call I was torn. I was happy to hear Emily saying she was going to speak to HR today, but also felt uneasy about what had happened last night. It seemed strange that she hadn't called me, and also that she had stayed at Frisco's place. Was something going on between them? Emily had always said she didn't like "campy" guys, and Frisco was definitely a campy guy.

As I thought about it more, I started to realize that the voice I heard in the background didn't sound like Frisco at all. Frisco sounded like a swishy gay, lisping and lilting. The voice in the background was deeper and more masculine. Was she even at Frisco's at all?

Finally, I couldn't help but notice that she hadn't said that she loved me. By the time I got to work, I had a pit in my stomach. I was starting to suspect that Emily might be cheating on me.
